At the town beach festival, adults could enter a sand castle competition. Priya signed up with her brother, but neither had read the list of things to bring. They arrived with sun hats and water, but no bucket or small spade.
The organiser had a few spare tools, although all the buckets were already in use. Priya borrowed a wooden board and began making a low wall with her hands. Her brother collected wet sand from the area beside their marked square.
Instead of a tall castle, they built a tiny village with narrow streets. The board helped them make flat roofs. A nearby team lent them a bucket for five minutes, so they added one round tower at the village entrance.
Their village did not win the main prize. However, several visitors stopped to look at its little streets and asked questions about the buildings. Priya took a picture before the competition ended. Next year, she planned to bring a bucket, but keep the idea of a village.
