Iris hired a bicycle for an afternoon at the country park. At the rental desk, she chose a bright yellow one because it looked cheerful. The assistant asked her to try it in the small practice area before leaving the building.
Iris found it difficult to get on. When she sat down, she felt too high and could not control the bicycle comfortably. She returned to the desk and explained the problem. The assistant did not tell her to keep trying.
Instead, he brought a smaller bicycle and adjusted the saddle. Iris tried that one slowly around the practice area. It felt much better. The assistant checked the brakes with her and explained which park paths allowed bicycles that afternoon.
The smaller bicycle was grey, not yellow, but Iris enjoyed the ride. She stopped twice beside the lake and returned before the rental office closed. When the assistant asked about her afternoon, she said the colour had become the least important part of the bicycle.
