The number eight bus passed the old mill every morning, but it did not always stop there. When Tomas planned a visit, he noticed a small letter beside the stop on the timetable. He did not know what it meant.
At the bus station, he asked an assistant. She explained that the old mill was a request stop. Tomas needed to tell the driver or press the stop button before they arrived. He thanked her and joined the short queue.
During the ride, he watched carefully for the mill's tall red roof. A little before the turning, he pressed the button. A light came on above the driver. The bus slowed down and stopped safely beside the mill entrance.
After his tour, Tomas waited outside for the return bus. The guide had told him to raise his hand clearly when it approached. He did so, and the driver stopped. Tomas now understood both parts of the journey, including that mysterious little letter on the timetable.
