Jade started work at a furniture shop on Monday. She could explain the products well, but telephone calls made her nervous. When the phone rang, she forgot the shop's opening hours, although they were written directly in front of her.
Her colleague Amir suggested practising before the shop opened. He called from his mobile phone in the back room. At first, he asked simple questions about prices and opening times. Jade answered slowly and wrote down the details of each call.
Then Amir pretended to be a customer with a missing table leg. Jade did not know what to say. They stopped the practice and checked the shop's procedure together. She learnt which details to ask for and who could arrange a replacement.
The next real call was about a late delivery. Jade took the customer's name and order number before asking Amir for help. Her voice still sounded nervous to her, but her notes were clear. Amir could solve the problem without calling the customer back.
