Since my brother came home from university, he often walked into my room without knocking. He wanted to borrow a charger or ask a quick question. I was glad to see him, but I did not like the door opening suddenly.
One evening, I told him that my room was still my private space, even when the door was not locked. He said he had always entered freely when we were children. I explained that our old habits needed to change now.
We agreed that we would knock and wait for an answer before entering each other's rooms. The next morning, he knocked while I was changing clothes. I asked him to wait two minutes, and he called his question through the closed door instead.
Later, I went to his room for the same charger. My hand was already on the handle when I remembered our conversation. I knocked, heard 'Come in,' and opened the door. He smiled and pointed to the charger beside his books.
