For years, our friends brought food to share at every picnic. Then the group became larger, and planning the menu took days. Some people wanted warm food, others preferred sandwiches, and several people could not eat certain foods at all.
Before our next meeting, Farah suggested that everyone bring a separate lunch box. We could still share a blanket and spend the afternoon together. One friend worried that this would feel unfriendly, but we agreed to try it once.
At the park, nobody asked who had brought enough bread or forgotten the plates. We opened our own lunches and sat in a wide circle. Farah had noodles, I had an egg sandwich, and Peter proudly showed us his enormous salad.
After eating, we played word games and talked until the shadows grew long. Cleaning up took only a few minutes because everyone packed their own box. On the way home, our group chat had one new message: 'Same plan next month?'
