Maya prepared an invitation for her friend Beth and placed it inside a blue shopping bag. Later, she gave Beth a similar bag with some borrowed books. The invitation stayed at home, beside a packet of rice and two onions.
On Friday, Maya wondered why Beth had not answered. She nearly sent an angry message, but first she asked if Beth had seen the card. Beth searched between the books and found only an old train ticket from her last holiday.
Maya checked the other blue bag and discovered her mistake. She called Beth, laughed at herself, and read the invitation aloud. It was for a small music evening on Saturday. Beth was free and said she would love to come.
When Beth arrived, she brought her reply on a card inside a shopping bag. Maya opened it carefully in front of her. 'Yes, thank you,' it said. They hung both cards on the kitchen wall before the other guests arrived.
