Paul joined a morning walk at the nature park. At the lake, the group entered a bird hide, a small wooden building with narrow windows. Paul had brought a camera and hoped to take pictures of large birds with bright colours.
Inside, everybody spoke quietly. Paul opened his bag, but the sound of the zip seemed very loud. He put the camera on his knees and looked through the window. At first, he saw only brown water and moving grass.
The guide pointed to a little grey bird near a stone. It stood still for a long time, then quickly caught something in the water. Paul reached for his camera, but the bird had already disappeared behind the grass.
He did not get a picture during those five minutes. However, he had seen something he had never noticed before. Outside, another visitor showed him the bird in a small book. Paul wrote down its name and decided to visit the hide again without his camera.
