Leah finished a long training course on Friday and brought a cake to work. She expected eight colleagues in the office. However, a team from another branch arrived that morning for a meeting. Suddenly, there were sixteen people near the kitchen.
Leah looked at the small cake and felt embarrassed. She had not brought enough plates either. Her colleague Max suggested saving it until the visitors left, but Leah did not like eating it while other people watched from the meeting room.
She cut the cake into sixteen small pieces. Max found a packet of clean paper plates in the cupboard and made a large pot of tea. Leah explained that everyone could have a taste to celebrate her course. Nobody complained about the size.
One visitor asked what she had studied. Soon, three people were discussing courses they wanted to try. The cake disappeared quickly, but the conversation continued through the break. Leah took the empty box home with a useful recommendation for her next evening class.
