The evening team at a laundry finished work at ten. Usually, they left a short note for the people who started at six the next morning. One night, Owen wrote, 'Machine two is strange.' He was tired and wanted to catch his bus.
Before he left, his colleague Ria read the note. She asked what 'strange' meant. Owen explained that the machine made a new noise during its final part. Their supervisor had already stopped it and arranged a check, but none of that was in the note.
Ria asked Owen to add the useful details. He wrote that machine two must not be used, that the supervisor knew, and that a repair worker was expected at eight. They also left the agreed warning sign on the machine itself.
The next evening, the morning team had written a reply. The repair worker had fixed the problem, and the machine was ready again. Owen read the clear message before starting work. His own note had taken one extra minute, but nobody needed to call him early.
