The One Who Watches

„Close your eyes,” Elias said. „Now, watch your thoughts.”

Daniel closed his eyes. Thoughts came like traffic. Worry about the price. A memory of his father. The taste of the coffee. The question — what am I worth? — again and again.

„Don’t stop them,” Elias said. „Just watch. Who is doing the watching?

Daniel kept his eyes closed. And then he saw it. The thoughts moved. But something behind them did not move. Something was watching the traffic, from the side of the road.

„There,” Daniel said quietly. „There it is.”

„That,” said Elias, „is you. Not the thoughts. The one who watches them. The thoughts are weather. You are the sky.”

Daniel opened his eyes. For a moment, everything looked different. The same café, the same cups, the same old man. But behind it all, there was a stillness he had never noticed.

„The money,” Daniel said slowly, „the price, the worry — those are weather too, aren’t they?”

Elias smiled. „Now you are asking the right questions.”
