The Rooms Missing from the Quote

Nico agreed to clean a flat before its owner moved in. The written request mentioned two bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. He estimated the time, sent a price and received confirmation. When he arrived, the owner also showed him a dusty basement and an outside storage room.

'I thought cleaning the flat meant everything,' she said. Nico looked at the stairs and realised the extra work would take several hours. He had another booking that afternoon. Saying yes would make him late and leave him doing more work for the same payment.

He showed the owner the original message without accusing her of being dishonest. She showed him an old property description that included the two additional rooms. They had used the same words while imagining different spaces. Nico offered to clean the listed rooms that day and send a separate quote for the rest.

The owner was disappointed but accepted. Before starting, they walked through the agreed rooms together and wrote down what each needed. Nico finished in time for his next customer.

That evening, he changed his booking form to include a full room list and any unusual tasks. He also added a question about photographs. A clearer form would not prevent every misunderstanding, but it was easier to carry than the extra hours he had almost taken home for free.
