Daisy forgot the evening she had promised to help her friend Mina pack. Mina waited with empty boxes while Daisy watched a film across town. When Daisy finally checked her phone, she sent several apologies and offered to come immediately. Mina replied that it was already too late.
The next morning, Daisy expected a friendly answer to her latest message. None came. She began to feel angry herself, as though apologising should have ended the problem. Then she pictured Mina carrying boxes alone and understood that forgiveness was not something she could request like a receipt.
She sent one final message acknowledging the extra work she had caused. She offered to help unload at the new flat on Saturday, but said Mina did not need to answer quickly. Then she stopped sending messages and left her friend some space to decide.
On Friday, Mina replied with an address and a time. Daisy arrived early, wearing practical shoes, and followed Mina's instructions without making jokes about her mistake. They were not immediately as relaxed as before. Still, after the last box was inside, Mina asked if she wanted tea. Daisy accepted. She knew the invitation was not proof that everything was forgotten. It was a chance to behave differently, and she intended to take it.
