Nora and Beth joined the local film club together. When the club needed volunteers, Nora immediately offered to introduce the films. Beth stayed quiet. Nora then suggested that Beth could speak too, because she knew a lot about old comedies.
After the meeting, Beth told Nora that she did not enjoy speaking in front of a group. She wanted to help, but she preferred a quiet task. Nora was surprised because Beth talked confidently when they were alone in a café.
At the next meeting, Beth offered to prepare short printed notes about each film. The club leader welcomed the idea. Nora used the notes during her introductions and always said who had written them. Beth also helped choose films for later meetings.
Their first comedy evening was a success. People laughed during the film and kept Beth's notes to read at home. Nora felt happy on the little stage. Beth felt equally happy near the back, with an empty box where the notes had been.
