At a practical laundry course, Dima wanted to learn how to iron work shirts. He brought his most expensive shirt to the first lesson. The teacher looked at its label and asked him to leave it in his bag for now.
Instead, she gave him a plain cotton cloth. Dima thought this was too simple, but the cloth soon showed every mistake. He moved the iron too quickly in one place and left a line in another. The teacher asked him to slow down.
They practised choosing the setting from the fabric label, arranging the cloth and moving the iron evenly. When Dima could do those steps, the teacher gave him an old cotton shirt. He worked on the collar first, then the sleeves and the front.
He did not touch his expensive shirt that evening. He needed more practice, and its label required a different method. On the way out, he borrowed another old cotton shirt from the class box. His homework would be useful without putting his best clothes at risk.
