On Monday, her manager asked her to work until six the next day. Eva almost said yes before remembering her course. She explained that she could work her normal shift, but could not stay late on Tuesdays during the next two months.
The manager looked at the staff schedule. She asked another worker, who was happy to take the extra hours. Eva felt relieved, although she still wondered if she had disappointed the team. At lunchtime, her colleague asked what she was studying and wished her luck.
On Tuesday afternoon, Eva sat at a quiet table with her exercise book. Some questions were difficult, and she needed the whole afternoon. She arrived at class with three clear questions for the teacher instead of arriving tired and unprepared after another long shift.
