At the start of the community bicycle ride, everyone chose a coloured group. Red riders wanted a fast trip. Blue riders preferred a medium speed, and green riders planned frequent stops. Theo joined the blue group because his friend was in it.
After the first hill, Theo was breathing hard. His friend waited, but Theo did not want everyone to keep stopping for him. At the meeting point beside the bridge, he spoke to a ride leader about changing to the green group.
The leader checked that there was space and introduced him to the other riders. They left a few minutes later and followed the same route at a slower speed. Theo could look at the fields instead of only watching the bicycle ahead.
During a stop at a small pond, he talked to another rider about local routes. At the finish, his friend was waiting with a cold drink. Theo had arrived later, but he still had energy for the ride home. They agreed to choose their groups separately next time.
