The office kitchen was closed while workers repaired a water pipe. At lunchtime, Pavel carried his sandwich from room to room. Every table was covered with papers or equipment. Finally, he sat on the wide stairs near an unused side door.
His colleague Ruth found him there and sat beside him. They talked about an old project they had worked on together. Soon, two more people joined them. The stairs were comfortable enough, but their bags left very little room for anyone to pass.
Ruth noticed this and suggested moving. The empty training room had chairs, although it had no table. They carried their lunches there and placed their bags against the wall. Pavel left a note for the repair workers so they could find him if needed.
The kitchen opened again the next morning. At lunch, the four colleagues sat together at a proper table. They had not planned a new lunch group, but they continued their conversation from the stairs, this time without blocking a walkway.
