In an evening English class, Daria always sat beside her friend Ana. They helped each other understand the teacher, but they often spoke Romanian during pair work. Daria wanted more English practice, although speaking to someone new made her nervous.
One evening, the teacher asked everyone to change seats. Daria moved beside Luis, who did not speak Romanian. Their task was to plan the opening hours of an imaginary shop. Daria had to explain why she wanted to close earlier on Saturdays.
She could not remember the word for 'afternoon', so she pointed to the time on their paper. Luis understood and said the word. Later, he forgot how to ask about Sunday, and Daria helped him. Their plan took longer than the other groups' plans.
When they finished, the teacher asked them to read their hours aloud. Daria spoke clearly, using the new word. During the break, she returned to Ana for a chat. For the next activity, however, she chose a different seat again.
