Milo's friends wanted to organize a surprise party for his thirtieth birthday. His sister Anya knew he disliked walking into a room full of unexpected guests. When the friends asked her for his spare key, she decided to speak honestly.
Anya said that Milo enjoyed seeing them, but he liked knowing his plans in advance. The group was disappointed because they had already bought decorations. One friend suggested asking Milo about a small evening together instead of making the party a secret.
Milo chose six guests, a chocolate cake, and a card game at his kitchen table. He asked everyone to leave by ten because he had an early start the next day. His friends agreed and brought the decorations anyway, with his permission.
The evening was cheerful and ended on time. There was one small surprise: six paper hats with pictures of Milo's cat. He laughed when he saw them and wore his until the guests left. Anya returned home without ever needing the spare key.
