Mara signed up for a weekend printmaking workshop because she wanted to design a poster for her music club. She drew a guitar and the words Friday Songs on a soft printing block. The instructor demonstrated the tools, and Mara spent the morning cutting carefully around her design.
After lunch, she rolled ink over the block and pressed it onto paper. The guitar looked excellent, but the words were backwards. She had listened to the warning about letters and still forgotten it when she began drawing. For a moment, she wanted to hide the print under her bag.
The instructor showed her how to keep the picture and add the words separately. Mara cut away the section containing the letters, then printed the guitar again. On another sheet, she practised writing the club's name with a thick pen. The two styles looked different, yet they worked well together.
Mara made ten posters that afternoon, each with a printed guitar and handwritten words. She also kept the first backwards version. At the next club meeting, she used it to explain why handmade posters needed a second person to check them. Several members asked to join the next workshop. Mara offered to remind everyone about the letters before lunch.
