The Group Chat Went Silent

Nadia liked the daily messages in her friends' group chat. Then a busy week passed without anyone replying to her suggestions. She proposed a meal, shared a joke and asked about a film. Nothing happened. She began to wonder whether the others had made a new group without her.

Instead of leaving angrily, Nadia called one friend, Celia. Celia sounded surprised. She had turned off notifications while caring for her father and had assumed someone else would answer. Another friend was working nights. A third had read the messages on a train and forgotten to return to them.

Nadia felt relieved, but she also explained how lonely the silence had seemed. Celia suggested a simple change. Anyone who could not answer properly could still send a short message saying when they might be available. They did not need constant conversation, just fewer mysterious gaps.

That evening, Nadia wrote one clear invitation for Saturday lunch. Two people accepted, and the others said they could not come. It was not the full gathering she had imagined, but it was a real plan. On Saturday, three friends shared soup and talked without checking their phones. Nadia no longer treated every empty screen as evidence about the friendship, though she still preferred an honest no to several days of guessing.
