A Quiet Week in November

During the summer, Yara worked long days at a seaside guesthouse. Her friends imagined that living near the beach meant constant holidays. In reality, she usually saw the sea while carrying laundry between buildings. By September, even friendly questions felt tiring.

She wanted a week without shifts in November, but taking unpaid time off would affect her household budget. She wrote down the bills due that month and compared them with the money she expected to receive. The page did not tell her what to choose. It simply made the trade clear.

Yara asked the guesthouse manager whether a shorter working week could be arranged instead of a full week away. Together, they found three quiet days when another employee wanted extra hours. She confirmed those dates before telling her family. She did not book a trip or promise to complete every unfinished task at home.

On the first free morning, rain covered the windows. Yara made breakfast slowly and almost felt guilty for wasting her carefully planned time. Then she took a book to the covered balcony.
