The courtyard behind our building was full of dry leaves. I wanted to clean it, but I could not move the heavy benches alone. On Friday, I put a note beside the stairs and asked for help on Sunday morning.
Three neighbors came downstairs at ten. Amir brought a broom, Julia carried strong bags, and Mrs Green arrived with gloves. We first moved the benches in pairs. Then we worked in different corners, so nobody had to wait for space.
After an hour, the courtyard was clean, but there were six full bags near the gate. The collection point was down the street. Mrs Green could not carry a bag that far, so she stayed and watched the open gate.
The rest of us carried the bags away. When we returned, she had put the benches back with Julia's help. We sat outside together for the first time that year. Next Sunday, our only plan was to bring our own cups.
