Tessa liked keeping pictures of every meeting with her friends. At a small lunch in her flat, she lifted her phone while everyone was eating. Her friend Omar covered his face with a napkin and asked her to stop.
Tessa lowered the phone, but she felt confused. Omar had smiled for pictures before. He explained that today he wanted a quiet lunch without any photographs. He did not want to explain more, and Tessa decided not to ask again.
After the meal, two friends wanted a picture beside the flowers. Tessa asked each person before she used her camera. Omar moved to the sofa with his tea. Nobody tried to pull him into the group or change his mind.
Later, Tessa sent the photograph only to the people in it. Omar sent her a different message: 'Thank you for lunch. The soup was excellent.' She added his kind words to her notebook of recipes, with no picture needed.
