At the top of the town hill, visitors could borrow binoculars from a small information hut. Karim signed his name on a sheet and took a pair to the viewing area. He wanted to see the old tower across the valley.
When he looked through the binoculars, everything seemed strange and unclear. He moved them farther from his eyes, then closer again. Nothing improved. His friend Lea asked whether he had adjusted them, but Karim did not know how to do that.
They returned to the hut and asked the assistant for help. She showed Karim how to hold the binoculars comfortably and turn the middle wheel. She asked him to look at a nearby sign first. Its letters slowly became clear.
Back at the viewing area, Karim could see the tower's windows and the trees around it. Lea found a footpath below the tower on their map. They decided that would be their next local walk. Karim returned the binoculars before the hut closed and thanked the assistant for her patient explanation.
