Every evening, Adam cycled beside the river. One part of the path crossed a narrow bridge. Usually, he slowed down there and rang his bell. On Tuesday, however, the bell made no sound when he pressed it with his thumb.
Two people were walking ahead of him. Adam did not try to ride between them. He stopped, got off his bicycle and said, 'Excuse me.' The walkers moved aside, and he pushed his bicycle over the bridge behind them.
At home, Adam looked at the bell. A tiny stone was inside it. He removed the stone, but the bell still sounded weak. The next morning, he visited the bicycle shop and asked the assistant to check it.
The assistant fixed a loose part without replacing the whole bell. Adam tested it outside the shop. That evening, he could use it again, but the bridge was crowded. He got off anyway and enjoyed looking at the river while he walked.
