Visitors to the small workshop often waited at reception because everyone was working in the back. The manager bought a little desk bell and put it beside the sign-in book. For the first hour, nobody used it. People still stood quietly near the door.
The bell looked like a decoration, and there was no instruction beside it. Arun wrote a sign saying, 'Please ring for help.' Soon, a visitor rang it once. Arun heard the sound clearly in the work area and came to greet her.
Later, a young delivery driver pressed it six times very quickly. Three workers arrived at reception together, expecting a serious problem. The driver only needed a signature for a small package. He thought the bell was broken because nobody appeared immediately.
Arun changed the sign to explain that one ring was enough and someone would come shortly. He also agreed with his colleagues who would answer during each part of the day. After that, one visitor usually brought one worker, not the whole workshop.
