A city created an online memorial containing names and short biographies of former residents. Volunteer editor Noor helped families submit stories. Noor understood his technical point, yet she also understood why being findable by anyone felt different from being available to invited readers.

She explained that removing a page from the site's search results would not guarantee its disappearance elsewhere. Copies might already exist, and outside search services followed their own schedules. Rather than offer false certainty, she described the available options: revise the biography, remove it, or restrict access on the memorial itself. The family requested temporary removal while they prepared a shorter version.

Some volunteers worried that allowing revisions would weaken the historical record. Noor suggested keeping a private editorial history with access controls, rather than treating every published sentence as permanent. The revised biography returned without the workplace detail. Its author thanked Noor, then asked whether the original could still be found. Noor answered honestly that she could not rule it out. The family deserved a clear boundary around the promise, even when that boundary was disappointing.
