At a cooking demonstration, Petra bought a large mixer. The presenter made bread look effortless, and several people were ordering while she watched. Petra imagined weekends full of warm rolls. At home, the unopened box took up half her small counter.
A week passed. She made her usual simple meals and moved the box whenever she needed space. Admitting that she had bought the wrong thing felt worse than the price. She kept thinking that returning it would reveal how easily she had been persuaded.
Her sister asked whether the shop's return period had ended. It had not. Together, they checked the receipt and conditions, then Petra packed the box carefully. At the shop, the assistant examined it and asked why she was returning it. Petra said it did not suit her kitchen. The assistant accepted the explanation without asking about her imagined bread.
The refund appeared a few days later. Petra put the receipt away and used the clear counter to make dough by hand. The rolls were uneven, and the washing up took longer than she expected. She enjoyed them anyway. Buying the machine had been a mistake, but keeping it would not have turned that mistake into enthusiasm. Her kitchen now had room for the cooking she actually did.
