Every Thursday, Marta met her friends at their local café. They usually sat beside the window, where buses stopped outside. Marta liked the people, but she often missed their words because of the noise. She smiled instead of asking again.
One evening, her friend Nabil asked why she was so quiet. Marta explained the problem. She was not bored or angry. She simply could not follow the conversation when the buses arrived. Nabil looked around the café for another table.
There was a small table at the back, near a shelf of cups. The group moved there with their drinks. At first, Joel missed the view of the street. Then Marta told a funny story about her sister's wedding shoes.
Everyone laughed, including Joel. The next Thursday, he arrived first and saved the table at the back. When Marta came in, he pointed to her chair. This time, she heard every word of his welcome.
