Ben offered to help at the town cycling day. His job was simple: carry maps from the sports centre to the start of the route. He put a large pile in his bicycle basket and left at nine.
The morning was sunny but windy. At the first corner, several maps flew out of the basket. Ben stopped safely beside the pavement. He picked up the papers, but he could not ride and hold them at the same time.
A woman outside a flower shop saw the problem. She gave him two long pieces of string. Ben tied the maps together and fixed them to the basket. He tested the string before he got back on his bicycle.
At the starting point, the organiser thanked him. There was one map for every cyclist, including Ben. His delivery was finished, and nobody needed his basket now. He left his bicycle with a helper, returned the string to the shop, then joined the short ride.
