He walked next door and found her painting a wooden fence. She had another hour of work. Pavel felt annoyed because she had not asked to keep it all weekend. Ruth thought he never used it on Saturdays.
They carried it back together so Pavel could finish his job first. While he worked, Ruth suggested a simple rule. Anyone who borrowed something should say when they would return it. Pavel agreed, and Ruth took the ladder until five.
At ten minutes to five, she brought it back clean and dry. Pavel put it away and asked about the fence. Ruth showed him a picture. He liked the blue paint so much that he asked to borrow her brush.
