On Monday, Callum accepted an invitation to his cousin's games evening. He wrote the date on a small piece of paper. Later, his friend Eva invited him to dinner on the same Friday. He forgot about the games and said yes.
Callum found the paper on Wednesday. Both evenings started at seven, on opposite sides of town. For a moment, he thought about saying he was ill. Instead, he phoned Eva and told her exactly what had happened.
Eva was disappointed because she had planned a meal for four people. Callum listened without making excuses. He offered to have dinner with her the following week, and she chose Tuesday. Then he put both dates in his phone.
At the games evening, his cousin gave everyone a little notebook as a prize. Callum laughed when he opened his. He already had a calendar, but a second place for important dates was probably a useful idea.
