A public bicycle pump stands outside the library. Kira stops beside it because her front tire feels soft. She usually asks a shop worker for help, but today she wants to try.
There are simple pictures on the side of the pump. Kira follows the first picture and takes the small cap off the tire. She puts the pump tube in place.
At first, air escapes with a loud sound. The tube is not straight. Kira moves it carefully and tries again. Now the handle moves slowly, and the tire becomes firm.
She checks the tire and puts the cap back. Then she returns the tube to its hook. Kira rides slowly across the square. Her bicycle feels better, and her hands are still clean.
