In the village museum, a table held five old objects without labels. Visitors could guess their uses before lifting a card to read the answer. Lidia stopped in front of a wooden object with a handle and several deep lines.
'Perhaps people used it to make music,' she told her husband. He thought it was a tool for cleaning shoes. They looked at it from both sides, but the table sign asked them not to pick up the original objects.
A museum helper brought a copy that visitors could handle. Lidia turned it over and noticed that the deep lines made a pattern. Under the answer card, she learned that the object was used to press a design into soft butter.
The helper showed them a picture of the finished butter shape. Lidia could now see the same pattern in both places. Before leaving, she tried to guess the other four objects. Her husband guessed two correctly, but neither of them was right about the smallest object on the table.
