Mateo worked in a small clothes shop. His adult English class usually started after work on Thursday. This week, however, the class had a special speaking activity at five. His shift did not end until six, and he really wanted to take part.
During the morning break, he asked his colleague June to swap shifts. June could work late on Thursday, but she needed Saturday morning free. She was attending a computer lesson then. Mateo checked his calendar before he answered. Saturday morning was clear.
They wrote the two changes on one sheet and took it to their manager. She agreed, but asked them to update the wall schedule too. Another colleague used that schedule to plan the lunch breaks.
On Thursday, Mateo left in time for his class. Before he went, he put Saturday's early start in his phone. June pointed at the reminder and laughed. 'Good. I don't want to teach your customers how to wait!'
