Dora turns the radio off for ten minutes. She cuts potatoes while Ivan reads. The kitchen sounds different. They can hear the knife on the board and water in the sink.
Ivan finishes the letter and thanks her. He turns the radio on again. Dora's favourite song starts. She sings quietly, and Ivan washes the potatoes beside her.
