She sorts the papers on the floor. A few have family phone numbers. She keeps those in a folder. The rest go in the paper bin beside her desk.
Her husband sees the empty drawer. He brings a box of cables from the living room. Paula stops him with a smile. She does not want more things beside her bed.
He puts the cables back in their usual place. Paula closes the empty drawer. She may need it later, but tonight it can stay empty. Her book waits on top of the cupboard.
