He brings a basket from the hall. Elena puts the newspapers in it. The basket fits beside the sofa. Now the small table has room for cups and a cake.
The doorbell rings as Elena sits down. Her father comes in and notices the basket. He chooses a newspaper to read. Elena brings the tea, and nobody needs to move anything.
