The walking club made a welcome card for its newest member, Alina. Everyone signed it before the Saturday walk. When Martin handed it to her, he noticed that the name on the front was wrong. It said 'Elena' in large letters.
Martin wanted to hide the card, but Alina had already seen it. She smiled a little and said her correct name. Martin repeated it carefully. Then he apologized and asked if she wanted a new card at the next meeting.
Alina preferred to keep this one because everyone had written a kind message inside. She took a pen from her bag and changed the name herself. Martin asked her how to say it properly and practiced once without making a joke.
During the walk, he introduced her to two late arrivals using the right name. At the end, Alina put the card safely inside her jacket. The front looked untidy, but all the warm messages were still there for her to read.
